Mikaela Shiffrin fails to register a win in her first race of the 2024/25 World Cup season
Mikaela Shiffrin was hoping to start her 2024/25 season with a victory but could only manage a fifth-place finish at the World Cup opener in Solden. The reigning slalom champion struggled with her timing in the second run and was eventually overtaken by Federica Brignone, who won the race in 2:16.50.
"If I miss the timing, then I'm just kind of fighting against the tracks the whole way down. This hill, if you are fighting it, then it is so slow," Shiffrin said after the race (via ESPN).
Shiffrin already has 97 World Cup victories and is chasing the record 100th victory in the 2024/25 season. She would also be eyeing the record-tying sixth overall title.
