The USA athletes displayed their brilliance on the global stage in 2024, especially at the prestigious Paris Olympics, with Noah Lyles, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Gabby Thomas, and Rai Benjamin winning multiple medals. At the quadrennial games, track and field contributed to the highest medals for the USA, with the nation winning 34 overall medals, including 14 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals.
In the 100m, Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, and Kenny Bednarek were some notable names who showed consistency throughout the year in addition to Noah Lyles. With this, let’s take a look at the top five American 100m athletes in 2024 -
#5 Christian Miller (9.93s)
Christian Miller stands as the fifth-fastest American sprinter in the 100m for the 2024 season. Miller delivered an impressive performance at the PURE Athletics Elite Invitational in April where he ran a personal best time of 9.93s (+1.6 m/s).
The performance remained a world-leading mark in the year until Jamaica’s Oblique Seville shattered it with a 9.82s at the Racers Grand Prix, more than a month later.
#4 Kenny Bednarek (9.87s)
Kenny Bednarek is the fourth-fastest USA athlete in the 100m, having recorded a 9.87s over the distance. He registered this time at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in the finals, where he finished second to Noah Lyles (9.83s) who won the finals. With this incredible display, Bednarek also secured his place in his second consecutive Olympic Games.
#3 Christian Coleman (9.86s)
Christian Coleman holds the third spot among the fastest American sprinters in the 100m this year. The two-time world champion achieved an impressive time of 9.86s in the semi-finals of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials.
However, he couldn’t secure his position in the three-member team for the USA in the 100m at the Paris Olympics after finishing fourth in the finals. Coleman was selected by the USATF for the quadrennial games in the relay pool.
#2 Fred Kerley (9.81s)
Fred Kerley is the fourth-fastest sprinter in the world and the second-fastest American in the 100m event in 2024. He achieved the feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he stunned several top competitors to claim the bronze medal. His remarkable time of 9.81 seconds earned his second consecutive Olympic medal in the distance, following his silver medal in Tokyo.
#1 Noah Lyles (9.79s)
Noah Lyles was the fastest American sprinter and the second-fastest globally in the 100m, owing to his record-breaking performance in the finals of the Paris Olympics final. His remarkable time of 9.79 seconds was not only a personal best but also earned him the prestigious 100m Olympic gold on the grandest stage.
The final was a nail-biting contest, with Noah Lyles (0.784 reaction time) narrowly edging out Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson (0.789 reaction time) in photo finish.
