Noah Lyles has edged it out in the men's 100m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning the gold medal by the barest of margins though a photo finish. In an unexpected triumph, he topped favorite Kishane Thompson from Jamaica who had to settle for the silver.

Fred Kerley from the USA, who won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, maintained his place on the podium, though with a bronze medal and a time of 9.81 seconds.

Notably, Lyles had got into trouble for his comments over the NBA labeling its title winners 'world champions.' When he came second in the heats, he was mocked by basketball fans, so his win in the final has also served as a redemption-of-sorts in such observers' eyes. A flurry of related memes have emerged online, with one user commenting on X (via @flameofsumeet):

"Noah Lyles wearing his gold medal at the Team USA breakfast in front of the NBA players."

Another user posted a parody video, commenting (via @jsf246 on X):

"Noah Lyles letting the US basketball try his world medal."

A third user celebrated Lyles' win by posting (via @SoulKingLives on X):

"Noah Lyles to the NBA community right now."

Yet another user hinted at Lyles redeeming himself with an Olympic gold medal, as they posted (via @KamitronPTW on X):

"Noah Lyles had all of NBA Twitter hate watching him because of an objectively correct statement, and he pulled it off."

However, it seems that some of the NBA fans have also acknowledged Lyles' succesful performance at the Paris Olympics. One of them cheekily posted (via @adryanashton on X):

"Noah Lyles you survived the 100M hate watch. we will reconvene in the 200M."

With a gold medal in the men's 100m at the Paris Olympics, Lyles has begun his campaign on a fantastic note. He had finished 2nd in the heats with a time of 10.04 seconds and 2nd again in the semifinals behind Oblique Seville of Jamaica with a time of 9.83 seconds.

In his gold-winning 100m sprint, it seems Noah Lyles saved his best for the last. The American sprinter wasn't ahead at all in the initial 30 meters. However, at the halfway mark, he gave it his all and proved to be tough competition for Kishane Thompson.

Both runners timed 9.79 seconds, which meant that the results had to be decided via photo finish. Ultimately, Lyles edged out Thompson with a micro timing of 0.784 seconds, while Thompson could manage only 0.789 seconds.

Lyles will next compete in his favorite event, the men's 200m, whose final will be held on August 8. The preliminary rounds for the men's 4x100m relay, in which he may compete if he doesn't choose to rest, will be held the same day, with the final on August 9.
