Noah Lyles' girlfriend and the Jamaican athlete, Junelle Bromfield, recently appeared in Simone Clarke's podcast, Sim Soul Sessions, where she opened up about various trials and triculations of her life. The athlete spoke about fulfilling expectations and highlighted the earnings from track and field.
Bromfield recently concluded her Paris Olympics campaign, where she competed in the mixed relay and the 400m dash. In the former event, the Jamaican team finished fourth in the first round and claimed fifth place during the finals, missing out on the podium finish.
Along with this, the 26-year-old ran in the 400m as well, where she finished third in the first round of the event and then attained the eighth position in the semifinal, missing out on the 400m finals.
Amidst her performance at the Paris Olympics, the athlete faced major backlash after a statement was passed by Noah Lyles, and days after this, the Jamaican athlete appeared in an interview with Simone Clarke, talking about her struggles. She opened up about her family's expectations and revealed that she learned about survival guilt through her therapy sessions.
"I learned that survival guilt is not just when somebody dies in your life; it's like survival guilt come from like when you grow up in a bad community and you move out, sometime you ask God why me when you look back and you realize that you can't help everybody else, and everybody else really expects you to be like, they're just waiting for you to help." said Junelle Bromfield. She further spoke about the earnings of track and field, and how athletes have to work besides competing on track for their survival.
"I feel as if even now, not feel as if, I know even now like me and my family is at odd with that because I feel as if there's just so much you can do, and when people see you at a certain level they expect that you can do the same for them, but that's not the case because track and field is not a sport that basically pays you million. Most of the athletes have to work after track and field." (6:51 - 8:27)
Junelle Bromfield shared details about online abuse during the Paris Olympics
In the aforementioned interview with Simone Clarke, Junelle Bromfield opened up about the online abuse she received from multiple social media users, and most of them were Jamaicans. She revealed getting death threats from her followers and uncanny messages of them wishing her "foot gets broken" and multiple more.
"I mean, during Olympics, and even before like, I had to turn off my inbox, because I was getting death threats from people," said Junelle Bromfield. "I had Jamaicans inboxing me, that they wish my foot gets broken, and If I come home, they're going to.... I didn't feel like it was the right time, even though I wanted to go back to see my family, to go home."
Junelle Bromfield currently has one Olympic bronze medal, which she won in the 4x400m relay event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her teammates were Shericka Jackson, Janieve Russell, Roneisha McGregor, Candice MacLeod and Stacey-Ann Williams.
