Paris Olympics 2024 kicked off with palpable excitement on July 24 and it was an eventful day, particularly for the soccer fans across Argentina and Morocco. However, for the US, nothing eventful happened across its opening fixtures. Only pool matches of Rugby Sevens and soccer were scheduled on the opening day of the competition.
The first American men in action was the Rugby Sevens Team, who took on hosts France in their opening fixture. The match ended in a draw as both teams scored 12 points each. For the draw, each team is awarded a score of two points.
The USA Rugby Sevens team competed against Fiji in their second match of the Pool C at the Paris Olympics 2024 and lost by 38-12. Fiji were dominant across all fronts, proving why they have won the last two Olympic gold medals in the sport after it was reintroduced at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The United States Men's soccer team was also in action on the opening day. They took on hosts France, and after a scoreless first half, Thierry Henry's side scored three goals to claim the three points. USMNT lost 3-0 with Loic Bade, Michael Olise, and Alexandre Lacazette emerging as the goalscorers for France.

What’s next for the USA Rugby Sevens at the Paris Olympics 2024?
The USA Rugby Sevens team has one more match left in the pool stage at the Paris Olympics 2024. They will take on Uruguay on July 25 at 3 p.m. EST. After going winless on the opening day, the USA have very slim chances of making it to the next stage. They need to defeat Uruguay by a big margin and hope France loses to Fiji, following which a tie-breaker will come into effect, and the team with the higher aggregate score will qualify.
