Team USA will begin their campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics starting on Wednesday, July 24. The first day of action for the nation consists of two men's rugby matches, as well as one men's football face-off.
Rugby was introduced to the Olympics in 2016, and the US has yet to bag a medal in this sport. In the inaugural year of rugby being an Olympic sport, Team USA was placed in Group A on the men's side, along with eventual gold-medalists Fiji as well as Argentina and Brazil.
That year, the US failed to make it past the group stage matches. At the Tokyo Olympics, Team USA made it to the quarterfinals before being shone the door by Great Britain.
Now, Team USA will begin their rugby campaign at the Paris Olympics against France, a team with a history similar to theirs. However, immediately after playing the host nation, the US men's side will have to battle Fiji, the reigning two-time Olympic champions.
Elsewhere on the opening day of the Games, the US men's football team will have a similarly difficult encounter awaiting them. The team representing the stars and stripes will have to take on host nation and 2018 World Cup champions France for their opening group stage match.
The nation's previous outings in football have yielded two medals won over a century ago, but neither of them was been gold.
