Bobby Finke received heartfelt wishes from his favorite show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's actors Joe Lo Truglio and Stephanie Beatriz. He jumped in delight on receiving voice notes from Detective Rosa Diaz and Charles Boyle after securing two berths at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Bobby Finke clinched the 800m and 1500m freestyle golds at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He was the first US man to win the 1500m freestyle since 1984.

Finke shared that he dislikes being under pressure in his run for Paris, although it brings the best out of him. On most days before the Summer Games, he goes to bed with a preoccupied mind, thinking about his races. In those moments, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the American police procedural comedy television series, soothes his nerves and helps him sleep (via Men's Health):

"I'll play Brooklyn Nine-Nine on my phone and put an earbud in. It kills my screen time data, but it calms the nerves enough to get me to fall asleep," Finke said.

After he finished in the top positions in the 800m and 1500m freestyle at the Olympic Trials, securing a double Olympic berth, Detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) and Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) took him by surprise with congratulatory notes (via NBC):

"Just wanted to say congratulations on making your second US Olympic swim team. Have a great time over there in Paris. I swam backstroke down in high school in Coconut Creek, Florida. My wife grew up in Brandon, outside Tampa, your hometown. So, you've got some Florida love pulling for you," Lo Truglio said.

As Finke heard the note in sheer surprise, Beatriz came on, saying:

"Thank you so much for being a fan. I'm so excited for you. I wish I was there to cheer you on. I can't wait for you to rep all of us there."

Bobby Finke doesn't care about world records and simply focuses on races

Bobby Finke ended his University of Florida career in December 2023 after graduating. Since then, he has been diligently training for Paris and prioritizing proper meals and rest.

In an interview, he talked about being unbothered about how well someone has done. His only focus is to be in good health and perform his best in an event that counts (via Team USA):

"I’m not going to think too much about how well someone is doing before the race or after their Trials. You can go world records now, but at the end of the day, I don’t really care. As long as you can perform on a day that matters, that’s what I care about," Finke said.

Bobby Finke will look to defend his Olympic titles in the 800m and 1500m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 - August 11, 2024.
