American athlete Christian Taylor has delivered the last jump of his career at the Holloway Pro Classic, which was held on July 19. He recently announced his retirement after a 17 year-career in the track and field realm.

Taylor ended his athletics journey in the place where it all began for him. He initially solidified his position as a triple jumper at the University of Florida, where he nabbed consecutive NCAA indoor and outdoor titles. Following this, he excelled in the triple jump by winning two gold medals at the 2012 London Games and 2016 Rio Games; however, he couldn't defend his title at the 2020 Olympics, citing an Achilles injury.

After 17 years of competing in various prestigious competitions such as the World Championships, Olympics, and Relay Championships, he has now delivered his final triple jump performance at the Holloway Pro Classic, where he finished fifth with a jump of 16.14m.

The Track & Field Gazette shared a video of the athlete's last hurrah, in which fans can be seen cheering him on before and during his jump, honoring him for his stellar career. Here is the video that showcases the last competitive appearance of Christian Taylor:

Christian Taylor's aspirations before announcing his retirement

Christian Taylor harbored intentions of booking his berth for the Paris Olympics despite entering the 2024 season with an injury. Before competing at the US trials, he spoke to NBC Sports, where he revealed his thoughts regarding qualification for the Paris Olympics:

"There's a significant level of gratitude that I have, but even with all that, to walk away not making a third Olympic team, yeah, that would be disappointing," Taylor said.

He added:

"That’s always something I personally challenged myself to do. So I continue to believe in my ability and know that it’s possible. One thing I tell myself daily is, really, I’m one jump away."

His retirement was announced through the American Track League's Instagram account, which said:

"Olympic Legend @taylored2jump will be competing in the final event of his career at the upcoming Holloway Pro Classic! Join us for the Holloway Pro Classic at the University of Florida’s James G. Pressly Stadium!"

Taylor has retired from the sport with a personal best of 18.21m, which gives him second position on the all-time list of triple jump records, just behind Jonathan Edwards' world record.
