Femke Bol is training hard ahead of the upcoming track season after falling short in the 400m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While the Dutch athlete won three medals, she failed to put up a fight against Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
Bol was spotted practicing her runs at the TooMuchSugar training facility. Alongside a number of Dutch athletes, the Olympic champion was spotted with relay teammates Lieke Klaver and Eveline Saalberg.
"Epic to join the @toomuchsugar400 training squad during their camp in Stellenbosch. Amazing to see the work that goes on behind the scenes as these International Athletes prepare for the season ahead," the caption of the video posted by Retruvent Media read.
Bol clocked a national record of 3:19.50 alongside Klaver, Cathelijn Peeters and Lisanne de Witte to win the silver medal behind the USA in the 4x400m relay at the Paris Olympics. Bol combined with Klaver in the mixed 4x400m relay as well and anchored her team to the gold medal.
However, the 24-year-old failed to deliver in the 400m hurdles final. The Dutch runner was fresh off becoming the only second woman in history to break the 51-second barrier in the event but ended up finishing third.
"It's not at all what I wanted" - Femke Bol on her bronze medal in the 400m hurdles final
Femke Bol became the second fastest woman in history after running 50.95s at the Résisprint International. She was just 0.30s shy of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's personal best and was deemed to have the best chance of beating the American at the Paris Olympics.
However, McLaughlin-Levrone's aggressive running in the final emptied her tank early and she failed to find her acceleration in the last stretch. The 24-year-old finished third in 52.15s and was disappointed with the result.
"It's not at all what I wanted. I still took bronze, so this is something special for me that I could defend, but, I wanted my best race but if it had been my best race, I would have been happy. But this was a really, really bad race. I really got a lot of lactic and I really don't know why. But this is just really, I could not move. I could not get my strides right in the end and it was slow, slow and slower," Femke Bol said.
Bol nonetheless finished her season on a high, winning the 400m hurdles title at the Diamond League Finals.
