The First Lady of the United States, Joe Biden's wife Jill, joined Gabby Thomas and others at Team USA's relay camp for the Paris Olympics for a fun relay practice session.
Thomas won the 200m final at the US Olympic trials in June and is expected to participate in the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay events at the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old took part in Team USA's first relay camp on Tuesday, July 23, as she and her teammates reached the French capital. She was joined by Sha'Carri Richardson, Twanisha Terry, Aleia Hobbs, and Melissa Jefferson, while on the men's side, Christian Coleman, Kenny Bednarek, Kyree King, and Courtney Lindsey were spotted during the camp.
In a recent post by USATF on their X handle, Gabby Thomas, Aleia Hobbs, and the other women's relay team members were joined by none other than the first lady of America, Jill Biden. She took part in a fun relay race practice; she passed on the baton to Melissa Jefferson, who handed it to Thomas, followed by Hobbs.
As the video ends, a team staff member can be heard saying:
"I don't know I might have to replace somebody."
Sharing the post, USATF wrote:
"Welcome to the relay team, @FLOTUS Thanks for stopping by Dr. Biden!"
Gabby Thomas talks about her journey to the Olympics
Gabby Thomas participated in her maiden Olympic event in Tokyo, where she secured a bronze in the women's 200m and a silver in the women's 4x100m relay.
In a recent interview, the Georgia native revealed that she has grown significantly since the Tokyo Olympics and has become resilient now.
"Since the Tokyo Olympic Games, I've grown so much. That was my first year running pro, and I didn't know what to expect. Then, last year, in 2023, I came back from an injury and had my best season to date, so in that time period, I've become resilient," she told uInterview [0:28 Onwards]
While talking about her Paris Olympic dreams, Thomas said that she wants to break Florence Griffith-Joyner's 200m world record and added (via The Guardian):
"I think it’s in reach for me at the Olympics, if the conditions are right. The super-fast tracks are now incredible..my sponsors, New Balance, have put a lot of development into our spikes."
She also added that she takes inspiration from Flo-Jo's record for running fast in her 200m sprints.
