The Olympic champion Gabby Thomas was recently spotted at the WNBA playoff game between the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream at Barclays Center. The crowd acknowledged Thomas' presence with a loud cheer.
However, that was not the only major highlight of the event. Thomas also met and interacted with another Olympic champion and the New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu.
ESPN Women uploaded a video of the same on their Instagram account, captioned:
"Two Olympic gold medalists linking up in New York 🥇🤝"
At the end of the game, Sabrina Ionescu and the NY Liberty grabbed the win with a comfortable margin of 91-82. She also represented Team USA in women's basketball in the Paris Olympics, where they won their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal since the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
Despite stiff resistance from hosts, France, the American team emerged victorious, winning by 67-66. Australia settled for the bronze medal after defeating Belgium by 85-81. Ionescu assisted in some crucial victories for Team USA, especially in the preliminary match against Belgium.
Gabby Thomas also cheered for Caitlin Clark
This isn't the first time Gabby Thomas has watched a WNBA playoff or cheered for a basketball team. A couple of weeks after the Paris Olympics had come to an end, the Olympic champion visited the game between Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun, alongside gymnastics legend Simone Biles.
Thomas uploaded glimpses from the same on her Instagram account, with the caption:
"First WNBA game ☑️
First visit to Indy ☑️
I freaking love sports!!!"
The Fever won the crucial game with a close margin of 84-80. Interestingly, Caitlin Clark also established a new record in this game for the most 3-pointers. In 38 minutes of play, she added 19 points with five assists and five rebounds. Clark has surpassed the previous record of Rhyne Howard's 85 3-pointers in 2022 season.
Thomas also did a phenomenal job at the Paris Olympics. Having won a silver and a bronze medal in the women's 4x100m relay and the women's 200m respectively, the American sprinter defied all expectations in Paris. She won gold medals in the women's 200m event, women's 4x100m relay event and women's 4x400m relay.
Thomas is now preparing for the Athlos track meet, which will commence from 26 September onwards. This women's only track event is being organized by Alexis Ohanian, who is the co-founder of the social media platform Reddit and also the husband of tennis legend and former Olympic champion Serena Williams.
