Gabby Thomas, the five-time Olympic medalist, recently shared insights into her preparations for 'the longest run of her life'. Thomas is also preparing for the 2025 season where she will be participating at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo as the reigning Olympic champion.
The Georgia native wrapped up an impressive 2024 season where she won three gold medals at the Paris Olympics in the 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay. Thomas is now preparing for the 2025 season where she will be representing the United States at the World Athletics Championships in September. Although Thomas has yet to win an individual gold at the competition, she secured a silver in the 200m at the 2023 event.
The Harvard graduate recently posted a Get Ready With Me video on TikTok, showing her preparations when she went for a 2.5-mile run and described it as the longest run of her life. In the video, Thomas said:
"Get ready with me for the longest run of my life: 2.5 miles. I know you might not think that's long, but I'm a short sprinter, OK, and in California, hosting a little run club for the next couple of days. At first I was going to do five miles, but that's pushing it."
"I start training for the 2025 season on Monday; we have World Championships in Tokyo in September, so I figured this would be a good shake-out run. For today I'm wearing my New Balance Fuel Cell Rebels; the run was pretty hard, but I'm proud of myself and obviously awarded myself with coffee on my walk back," she added.
Gabby Thomas reveals that she carries her Paris Olympics medals with her wherever she goes - "These are my babies"
In August, Gabby Thomas competed in her second Olympic Games in Paris and etched her name in history books by winning the 200m gold medal with a time of 21.83 seconds against a mighty lineup of Julien Alfred, Brittany Brown, and Dina Asher-Smith.
Notably, her victory marked America's first individual gold in that distance since Allyson Felix's triumph at the 2012 London Olympics. She then played a key role in the US team's gold medal victories in the 4x100m relay with Sha'Carri Richardson and the 4x400m relay alongside Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
After her record-breaking achievements, the 27-year-old appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, hosted by guest host RuPaul. During their conversation, Thomas' medals were showcased and she was asked how she got them through customs. She replied:
"So, these medals do not leave my side; these are my babies, so I don't put them in my suitcase that I check; I carry them on with me, and they are almost always stopped at the TSA [Transportation Security Administration] check. But it's almost kind of fun cuz it's a little moment where you get to flex a little bit." (via Jimmy Kimmel Live Instagram)
Gabby Thomas concluded her 2024 season at the Athlos NYC in September where she competed in the 200m race.
