American 200m title contender at the Paris Olympics, Gabby Thomas, offered an exclusive tour of Team USA's High-Performance Center for the French Games before entering the Olympics Village on her social media handle. The Atlanta-based runner secured her ticket to the Paris Olympics after performing exceptionally well at the US Olympic Trials held at Hayward Field Stadium in June.
Thomas is the reigning 200m Olympic bronze medalist and the 4x100m relay silver medalist. She won the 200m finals at the trials in 21.81 seconds and qualified for her second straight quadrennial games. Thomas chose not to participate in the 400m at the trials to concentrate solely on the 200m, as she aims for gold in the category.
Before heading to Paris, the 27-year-old blazed through the London Stadium on Saturday, July 20, to win the 200m sprint at the London Diamond League. She clocked another sub-20 time of 19.82 seconds, setting a meeting record and posting the second-fastest time of the season.
Gabby Thomas has reached the French capital for the Olympics and participated in the first training camp for relays, as per Team USA's post on Tuesday. She stayed at Team USA's High-Performance Center for the relay camp before moving to the Olympic Village. Thomas provided a sneak peek of the center through her TikTok account, which was later reposted by X user "emma/@gimternet" on their X handle.

Gabby Thomas aiming for Florence Griffith-Joyner's 200m world record at Paris Olympics 2024 - "It’s in reach"
Gabby Thomas has been a force to be reckoned with in women's sprinting, particularly in her marquee 200m event. She is the world's fourth-fastest runner with a time of 21.60 seconds, which also makes her the second-fastest American in the discipline behind track-running legend Florence Griffith-Joyner, who holds the current 200m world record with 21.34 seconds.
However, Thomas, during a recent interview with "The Guardian", accepted that Flo-Jo's world record is 'within her reach' at the Paris Olympics.
"I think it’s in reach for me at the Olympics, if the conditions are right. The super-fast tracks are now incredible..my sponsors, New Balance, have put a lot of development into our spikes. You really feel like you’re getting a lot back from the track," Gabby said.
Gabby Thomas added that her Jamaican counterpart and reigning 200m world champion, Shericka Jackson, has the potential to break the world record as well.
