American track athlete Gabby Thomas shared a hilarious meme video from her recent running session. This comes just a couple of days after Thomas won the USATF Jackie Joyneer-Kersee Award on Saturday (Dec. 7) due to her heroics across the 2024 season.
Following a successful year, Thomas started her preparations for the 2025 season just a few weeks ago. During one of these training sessions, Thomas lent some time recently to entertain her social media followers through a funny reel.
She took to her Instagram handle to share this video which also features one of her training partners. In the video, Thomas can be seen syncing over the "Why are you running?" sound byte. She addressed this to her partner who was running too fast during their initial training repetitions.
Her text overlay in the video stated:
"Pov your teammate always goes out way too hard on the first rep"
"forgot to post this on here," Thomas wrote in her caption.
Here is the video:
The 2025 World Championships will be one of the major competitions for Gabby Thomas next season. Her last outing in the event was quite successful in 2023 where she clinched a 200m silver medal and won a 4x100m relay gold. Besides, she has also signed a deal with the Grand Slam Track and will also participate in all four meets of Michael Johnson's newly-formed competition.
Gabby Thomas comments on the importance of mental preparation before track and field competitions
200m Olympic champion Gabby Thomas recently shed light on the importance of mental training to get into the right frame of mind before track competition.
In an interview during the 2024 Footwear News Achievement Awards on Dec 7, Thomas said her 2024 Olympic performance was the culmination of her mental preparations from the last five years. She also emphasized the importance of sleep, training regimes and maintaining consistency to forge a strong mentality. She said (via US Weekly):
"Getting myself into a competitive mindset, that takes years of mental training. I’m not gonna lie. Being ready mentally for Paris was five years in the making of training myself, physically, mentally. It was meditation, it was getting the right sleep, it was discipline, it was consistency."
During the event, Thomas also handed over the 2024 Company of the Year award to her sponsor, New Balance.
