Simone Biles has delivered impressive performances in multiple events at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has already won two gold medals. However, another incident that stole focus was Biles trading her custom pin with American rugby player Ilona Maher at the 2024 Summer Games.
Aside from medals, custom pins are another coveted item to collect at the Olympic Games. Pin trading is a ritual that dates back to 1986, when the first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens, Greece. Official pins are made by all the countries for their athletes, and pin trading allows athletes to meet other Olympians in the Olympic village.
A video has recently surfaced on the internet where Maher is seen exchanging pins with the Biles. In the video, the rugby player expressed her excitement about trading her pin with the decorated gymnast. She said:
"So, we all know, Iconic Simone Biles. She made her own custom pins and my sister's made custom pins for me as well. So, I gave my custom pins to Simone and she's gonna give me hers."
Following this, both athletes were seen exchanging pins with each other. Biles came running towrads Maher and handed over the pin. Here is a video of the same:
Simone Biles dons a goat pendant on day 5 of the Paris Olympics
Simone Biles won two golds at the Paris Olympics, including the team all-around finals and the all-around individual. Following her individual gold win, where she scored 59.131, the gymnast pulled out a silver-colored goat necklace. Moments after this, she was honored with a gold medal for the win.
Following this incident, in a post-event interview, Biles revealed that the pendant is just an ode, and deep down, she still feels that she is the girl from Texas who loves to flip.
"My goat necklace is just kind of an ode because some people love it and some hate it," Biles said. "So, it's like the best of both worlds. I was like, 'Okay, if it goes well, we'll wear the goat necklace. I know people will go crazy over it."
Expressing her emotions about being counted among the greatest of all athletes, she added:
"At the end of the day, it is crazy that I am in the conversation of greatest of all athletes, because, I still think I'm Simone Biles from Spring, Texas, that loves to flip."
Biles defeated Rebecca Andrade in the all-around finals, where the latter scored 57.932 to secure second place. Biles' teammate, Suni Lee, claimed third place after she scored 56.465 points.
