Jakob Ingebrigtsen sent a strong message to his rivals after running a world-leading 1500m at the Monaco Diamond League 2024. The Norwegian clocked a new personal best, going sub 3:27 for the first time in his career. He has become the only sixth 1500m runner in history to do that.

The Olympic champion was nursing an injury earlier this year, which also saw him miss the entirety of the 2024 Indoor season, during which his arch-rival Josh Kerr broke a world record as well. He kicked off his outdoor season at the Prefontaine Classic on May 25 in the Bowerman Mile, where he faced Kerr. However, he lost and finished second in 3:45.60.

Ingebrigtsen ran the first 1500m of the year at the Oslo Bislett Games, winning in a time of 3:29.74. He defended his European Championship title last month with an easy 3:31.95. But the Norwegian has now made a massive jump, obliterating his own European record at the Monaco Diamond League 2024.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen made his usual brisk start, and as he neared the finish line, the 23-year-old was going solo. He touched the finish line two seconds ahead of runner-up Timothy Cheruiyot. Ingebrigtsen became the sixth fastest man in history with his time of 3:26.73, which also stands as the world lead in 2024.

The third place was secured by Brian Komen of Kenya while USA's Yared Nuguse settled for fourth place in a season’s best of 3:29.13. Ingebrigtsen will next race directly at the Paris Olympics 2024, and he is now an overwhelming favorite to defend his title from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr have headlined one of the most trash-talked rivalries after the two-faced at last year's World Championships. The Norwegian lost to Kerr and later claimed he wasn't at his best.

Speaking on European Athletics’ Ignite podcast, Ingebrigtsen claimed if doesn't get injured or isn't sick, it is going to be a ‘walk in the park’ for him at the Paris Olympics 2024.

"If I don't get injured and I don't get sick, I think it's going to be a walk in the park," he said (via Inside the Games).

Following the world-leading performance at the Monaco Diamond League, it does seem it could be a ‘walk in the park’ for Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the Paris Olympics 2024.
