Katie Ledecky continued her dominance in the women's 1500m freestyle event at the Paris Olympics 2024, winning a second consecutive gold medal in the event. The 27-year-old continued her 14-year-old undefeated streak in the event, winning the gold medal in a time of 15:30.02.

Ledecky qualified in five events for the Paris Olympics 2024 but dropped the 200m freestyle from her roster. In her first swim at the Games, she defeated Ariarne Titmus in the 400m freestyle heats but had to settle for a bronze medal in the finals behind the Australian swimmer and Canada's Summer McIntosh who won the gold and silver medals respectively.

However, the 400m freestyle isn't the main event of the 27-year-old. The newly introduced 1500m freestyle is where her dominance is unmatched. The American swimmer won the heats over the distance more than 16 seconds ahead of second-placed Simona Quadrella.

Katie Ledecky has now increased that margin, running off with the gold medal in the finals with a blistering time of 15:30.02. She finished nearly 10 seconds ahead of the silver medalist Anastasiya Kripichnikova of France. Germany's Isabel Gose took bronze with 15:41.16.

It marked Ledecky’s second medal of the Paris Olympics 2024 after winning the bronze earlier in the 400m freestyle. The 27-year-old is scheduled to compete next in 800m freestyle, and 4x200m freestyle, and while medals in both events are nearly guaranteed for her, she is expected to defend her 800m freestyle gold as well.

With 1500m freestyle gold at the Paris Olympics 2024, Katie Ledecky tied with former American swimmers Jenny Thompson and Darra Tores and Australia’s Emma McKeown as the most decorated female Olympic swimmer of all time.

Ledecky is expected to overtake all three of them in her next race and become the most decorated female Olympic swimmer of all time, both in America well as the world. Her eight gold medals also tied her with Thompson as the most Olympic titles won by a female swimmer in history.

Katie Ledecky extended her undefeated run in the 1500m freestyle with the victory as well. The last time she lost a race over the distance was 14 years ago in her junior high school. The 27-year-old will now be eying her fourth consecutive gold in the 800m freestyle, to become the first female swimmer to win four Olympic titles in a single event.
