Lindsey Vonn's potential return to slope has sparked a flurry of excitement within the community. Vonn hung up her skis in 2019 after suffering a series of knee injuries.
Vonn encountered a severe crash in 2018 while training super-G at Copper Mountain in Colorado, and injured her knee, delaying her season. In February 2019, she announced that she would retire following the World Championships.
Following the 2019 World Championships, the former American skier tucked her skis away after bagging a bronze medal in the women's downhill. In April 2024, she underwent a partial knee replacement surgery.
Six years following her retirement and with the introduction of the new rule, which permits retired athletes who have won a World Cup Overall Globe, an Event Globe, an Olympic, or a World Championship gold medal to compete again, discussions speculating Vonn's return are growing louder.
According to a recent press statement, Vonn will join retired skiers, including Marcel Hirscher, Frenchman Alexis Pinturault, and Lara Gut-Behrami to make their comeback 2024-25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season opener race in Solden, Austria, on October 26, 2024.
Ahead of her potential return to the slope, the 40-year-old was seen effortlessly cruising through the slopes in New Zealand. She shared a video of her followed by a camera throughout the run, and wrote,

Ahead of the 2024/25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, Lindsey Vonn is frequently sharing glimpses of her training in Solden, Austria, teasing fans with the exciting prospect of her return.
In one of the posts shared by the American, the skier is seen waking up early in the morning to hit the slopes. Along with honing her skills on ice, she is also pictured working out in the gym.
She shared a video of her daily routine in Solden and wrote,
"Early mornings in Sölden… nothing makes me happier."
Sharing a few more pictures from the mountain, Vonn conveyed her joy.
"Loading…….Been putting in the work here in Sölden. Having the time of my life and seeing how things go. Just happy."
Lindsey Vonn also gave a sneak peek into her strengthing session and wrote:
"Monday grind. Putting in the work. Biometrics testing with @redbull 💪🏻 You know me, even if I’m working hard… I still have fun! Legit wonder what the computer thought of my dance moves 🤪😂," she captioned the post.
The 2024-25 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season will end on March 27, 2025, in Sun Valley, United States.
