Lindsey Vonn continued training days after her knee replacement surgery earlier this year. Her slow progress towards entirely healing from the consequences of surgery is making her feel better with each passing day.
Vonn, 39, has four overall World Cup champion trophies in her purse. Boasting 82 World Cup victories, the former alpine skier is the third most decorated of all time in the super rankings. The Olympic gold medalist took leave from her illustrious career in 2019, citing persistent knee issues ensuing from injuries.
The same year, she tried to fix her LCL, but the knee problems turned out to be a barrier. In 2023, Lindsey Vonn underwent prep surgery in anticipation of a successful knee replacement this spring. Days after she posted on Instagram how her healing journey has been, Vonn got back to gym sessions, where she is showing good progress but with a kneecap on.
Resorting to her Instagram handle, the Olympian posted a reel shot inside the gym. In a hazelnut brown gym wear, she was seen lifting the barbell, while in an all-white gym wear, she lifted weights on her shoulders and switched sides with the weight plate.
"Feeling good… making progress!" she wrote in the caption.
Vonn had landed in Miami to attend the 2024 Miami Grand Prix and supported the Red Bull Racing team. This came shortly after she embarked on her post-knee replacement journey.
In eight months, Vonn survived two major surgeries, results of MCL, ACL, and other fractures. On her Instagram post, while she reflected on her skiing comeback at Lake Louis, Canada, she unveiled not being sure of making a return to her sport but swept the Downhill and Super-G overall titles, besides eight wins that season.
"Finally got some chin drip" - Lindsey Vonn
Vonn has shown resilience on several occasions, which became relevant on her Instagram stories, which featured the Olympian taking pride in her longest cardio session in a while.
"Longest cardio session since surgery!! 35 mins!!" she wrote in the caption.
She further demonstrated how her progression has been slow but steady. The intensity of her gym session was distinct from her sweat dripping.
"I tried to increase my time each session. Sometimes I could and sometimes I couldn't. It's been slow but it's progress! Finally got some good chin drip!" she wrote.
In another Instagram post, the 39-year-old talked about choosing glute and core-related workouts with a hint of cardio to keep fit.
"Slow and steady wins the race of life."
