Legendary Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps recently received an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a NASCAR for the first time, experiencing the thrill of racing at high speeds. He made an appearance at the 2024 NASCAR Championship Weekend at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona.

Owing to his illustrious career of collecting 28 Olympic medals, 23 of them being gold, 33 world championships medals, and multiple world records, the former American swimmer received the honor of pace car driver for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race on October 23, 2024.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race was held on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Phelps attended the Championship Weekend along with his wife Nicole Johnson and his sons Boomer, Beckett, Maverick, and the newborn Nico.

He took to social media to give a glimpse of his first NASCAR experience, conveying his excitement.

"First ride around the track," Phelps said. "I'm excited. It's my first time in a race. We have been talking about it for years."

He added:

"He came right up on me and literally was like an inch away from me. You hear the vibrations from the car. It was crazy. He hit a 100 going into turn four and I was like (imitates shaking) l. You feel your body shifting through. It's sick. This is the greatest day of my life."

Following his first lap as the pace car driver, the 39-year-old shared his experience, describing it as the "greatest day of my life." He shared glimpses of the same in an Instagram video and captioned his post with an iconic quote from the movie "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

"I Feel Like I Was Riding Inside An Asteroid Or A Comet Or Something," Phelps wrote.

After hanging up his swimming goggles and cap in 2016, Phelps is making waves in the golfing circuit with his upcoming appearance at the 'The Match: Superstars.'

The former swimmer will be seen aprticipating in the two-day event presented by TNT on November 21 and 22, 2024. at the Breakers Rees Jones Course at Breakers West Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ahead of his participation, Phelps was seen strengthning his physical endurance, an update of which he shared on his Instagram story.

Michael Phelps will be seen competing alongside Ken Griffey Jr., Charles Barkley, Mark Wahlberg, Bill Murray, Nate Bargatze, Wayne Gretzky, and Blake Griffin.
