Mondo Duplantis recently reflected on his remarkable year, highlighting his favorite moment. Following his record-breaking performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Olympic champion celebrated the moment with his girlfriend, Desiré Inglander, in grand style.
At the French capital, the Swedish-American pole-vaulter won the gold medal by bettering his own world record. Weeks later, he set another new world record after clearing 6.26 meters at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.
Duplantis took to Instagram to reveal his best moment from 2024. He shared a video of the celebrations following his Olympics triumphs, where his now-fiancee Desire Inglander poured champagne on him.
The pole-vaulter captioned the video :
"My fav from the year. This vid is one of them ones."
In addition to his athletic achievements, 2024 has been a milestone year for Mondo Duplantis as he got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Inglader, in October at East Hampton Beach. The proposal took place during a Vogue Scandinavia photoshoot, where Duplantis revealed he felt ready for the engagements after securing Olympic gold.
Mondo Duplantis reflects on his 2024 Olympic performance
At the 2024 Paris Games, Mondo Duplantis secured his gold medal, becoming only the second male pole vaulter to achieve this milestone, alongside Bob Richards (1952, 1956). He shattered his world record at the Stade de France- a leap he had envisioned since childhood.
In August 2024, reflecting on his achievement, the gold medalist spoke to Olympics.com about the performance that defined his year.
"When I was sitting on the back of the runway, I felt like I'd been there 1000 times because I've been visualizing this moment for such a long time.“I've visualized and dreamt of this moment since I was just a little kid, like looking at the world record height at the Olympic final. For it to actually happen the way that it did, especially in that stadium with the most amazing crowd that I've ever been a part of, it’s kind of hard to beat. And I'm okay with that. I don't think I really need to beat it because it’s probably not really beatable,” he said.
Mondo Duplantis revealed that his next goal was to clear 6.30 meters, further pushing the limits of his sport. The pole vaulting star has dominated the field, winning 30 of his previous 31 competitions.
