Following the conclusion of the 2024 Chicago Marathon, where Kenya's Ruth Chepng'etich achieved a historic milestone in the women's category, sports apparel giant Nike released a hilarious shoe commercial referencing the marathon participants.

Chicago hosted the annual marathon competition on Sunday, October 13, where nearly 50,000 runners from across the world participated for the ultimate prize. The competition turned out to be a historic one for Kenya, as both the women's and men's titles were claimed by their runners.

In the women's division, 30-year-old Chepng'etich not only took home the title but also set a new world record with a remarkable time of 2:09:56. With this, she broke Tigst Assefa's previous record that was set at the Berlin Marathon in 2023. In contrast, John Korir secured victory in the men's category with a time of 2:02:43, claiming the first Word Marathon Major (WMM) title of his distance running career.

After the successful conclusion of the Chicago Marathon, Nike playfully poked fun at the participants of the race in their recent commercial posted on their Instagram handle. In the video, a few individuals are seen walking with a limp and holding their legs, illustrating the aftermath of running a marathon while "Love Hurts" by Nazareth plays in the background. As the video wraps up, a radio DJ can be heard saying:

"And this one is for everyone who ran the marathon yesterday. Hope you're doing OK out there." And the video ends with the quote: "Winning isn't comfortable."

After winning her third Chicago Marathon title, Ruth Chepng'etich expressed her gratitude to God and noted that the victory was a dream come true for her.

"I feel so great. I'm proud of myself and I thank God for the victory and the world record," Chepngetich told NBC Chicago after her stunning win. "This is my dream that has come true. I fight a lot thinking about world record and I have fulfilled it and I'm much grateful."

She further dedicated her victory to her fellow countryman and marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who tragically lost his life this year in a road accident in February.

“The world record has come back to Kenya. I dedicate this world record to Kelvin Kiptum," she added.

For her Chicago Marathon title, Chepng'etich was awarded a prize of $100,000 along with an additional $50,000 for shattering the course record.
