Hezly Rivera executed a stellar front flip before throwing the first pitch at the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees MLB game on Thursday. Rivera came fresh off the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won the team gold medal alongside her US women's gymnastics teammates.
Ahead of Thursday's game, she was spotted throwing an 'unreal' first pitch strike at the Rangers game, as evident in MLB's X post. The 15-year-old flipped without hands and threw her debut first pitch. She entered the MLB arena with the Olympic gold medal around her neck.
The Texas Rangers' Instagram post celebrated Rivera's unique pitch throw, honoring her with a perfect 10.
"A perfect 🔟 for Olympic gold medalist, @hezrivera!"
Rivera became age-eligible (at 15) for senior-level competition in 2024 and earned sixth overall at the National Gymnastics Championships. Her performance qualified her for the US Olympic Trials, where she tied for first in the balance beam, earned fifth in the all-around, eighth on floor exercise, and fourth on the uneven bars.
In the wake of Kayla Dicello and Shilese Jones' withdrawal due to injuries, Hezly Rivera was named to the five-member Olympic team, dubbed "Golden Girls." She earned her maiden Olympic gold in the team competition.
At the junior level, Rivera finished first in the all-around, floor exercise and balance beam at the 2023 Winter Cup. Her performance qualified her for the 2023 World Junior Championships. She led the US team to a silver medal and won an individual floor silver in the event.
The same year, the Texas native also earned the junior US national champion title.
