Teenage sensation Quincy Wilson once again took the world by storm after he clocked blistering speed at the Penn Relays 2024. The 16-year-old recorded the fastest 4x400m split in the event's history, which is one of the oldest running competitions in the world.
Earlier in March, the Maryland high school sophomore broke the indoor world record in the U18 age group at the New Balance Nationals in Boston. He clocked 45.76 seconds over the 400m distance.
Wilson turned 16 this January and has expressed the desire to make it to Team USA for the Paris Olympics 2024. For some context, the high schooler didn't look tired a bit after the race. Wilson even claimed that his coach had told him that he could have run faster under the 45-second barrier.
A huge prospect for Team USA, Wilson is making a strong statement ahead of the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. At the ongoing Penn relays, he ran the 4x400m relay and clocked the fastest time in the event's history to power his team to victory. Sharing a video of his blistering leg, user Travis Miller wrote on X:
"16-YEAR-OLD QUINCY WILSON JUST POSTED A 44.37 4x400m SPLIT!!!"
Bullis School fell on the first leg of their prelim and when Wilson took the baton, the team struggled at sixth position. The 16-year-old sophomore ran at insane speed to cover the 400m track in 44.37s.
Noah Lyles praises Quincy Wilson
Reigning 100m and 200m world champion Noah Lyles praised Quincy Wilson after his stellar performance at the Penn Relays 2024. As user Travis Miller uploaded the 4x400m split on X (formerly Twitter), Lyles wrote in the comment section:
"They could really do it. They could win it"
Earlier when he broke the U18 record at New Balance nationals in Boston, the Tokyo medalist had hyped up Quincy Wilson. He wrote on X:
"He is HIM"
Wilson has also expressed his fandom for Noah Lyles and claimed that he has been watching his races and trying to learn from them.
"Yes, I've have been watching all those races studying them and breaking them down from 50m to 100m and 200m and even so I've been breaking it down this morning. I was watching Justin Robinson 44.84, breaking down his 50m split and so I knew what I had to do today to execute my race.", he said in an interview with Fitzroy Dunkley.
