The Zurich Diamond League is all set to commence on September 4, 2024, at the Zurich main station, and the athletes such as Sha'Carri Richardson, Fred Kerley, and others are poised to perform in the event. A few days ahead of this competition, the athletes spent quality time with kids while training them.
Richardson is competing for the first time after the Paris Olympics, where she won the gold in the 4x100m and the silver in the 100m event. She was beaten by Julien Alfred, who clocked 10.72 seconds in the final to win Saint Lucia's very first Olympic medal.
The American claimed the gold medal in the 4x100m relay, where she and her team, which included Gabby Thomas, Melissa Jefferson, and Twanisha Terry, clocked a time of 41.78s to stand atop the podium. They edged Great Britain and Germany, who secured second and third place, respectively.
Following these exploits, Sha'Carri Richardson is ready to compete once again in the 100m dash against her Olympic contender Julien Alfred. However, days ahead of the competition, she, along with Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, Dina Asher-Smith, Ryan Crouser, and a few more athletes, were seen teaching the kids.
They were seen running on the track with the kids, giving them autographs, and spending a wholesome time altogether. The Weltklasse Zurich shared the video on Instagram, adding the caption:
"That was youth trained with world-class Zurich 2024."
Sha'Carri Richardson was lauded by Michael Johnson for her personality
Sha'Carri Richardson, who has faced her share of trials and tribulations from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, made a notable comeback in the 2023 World Championships and continued her dominance in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The track and field legend Michael Johnson lauded the 24-year-old in an interview with Olympics.com for her authentic personality.
"I think Sha'Carri is a very good example of an athlete who is not copying any previous greats to make an impact in the sport," said Johnson.
Drawing on her journey, he called Sha'Carri Richardson an "interesting" athlete, and said:
"The people that make the biggest impact are those who are just authentically themselves. And she is certainly that, an amazing talent who's had a unique journey to actually realise her talent on the track and win medals. She's probably one of the most interesting athletes and a fantastic talent."
Sha'Carri Richardson will be competing next at the Zurich Diamond League on September 5 at the Letzigrund Stadium Zurich. Following this, she will also be competing in the 100m and 200m dashes at the Brussels Diamond League 2024.
