Mondo Duplantis made a classic entry to the stage ahead of his 100m dash in a blue-colored boxing jacket with a squad that included his LSU teammate Sha'Carri Richardson and other Olympians such as Fred Kerley and a few more. The Swedish athlete delivered a dominant performance and trounced his contender, Karsten Warholm.
Duplantis, who is a ten-time world record holder of the pole vault event, broke his record thrice in 2024. He proved his prospect as a formidable athlete by setting a world record at the Paris Olympics, as he soared to the height of 6.25m. Just a few days after his Olympics campaign, the pole vaulter broke his own world record by clearing 6.26m.
Along with this, the 24-year-old has now shown his dominance in the short sprint while competing against Karsten Warholm in a friendly 100m sprint at the Letzigrund Stadium. Duplantis cruised to victory and bested the Norwegian athlete by clocking 10.37s and the latter recorded 10.47s. As amusing as the race was between the pole vault world record holder and the 400m hurdle world record holder, their entrance into the stadium was staunch too.
Mondo Duplantis made his entry in a blue boxing gown and was followed by an entire sprinting squad, which included Sha'Carri Richardson, Fred Kerley, the 100m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie, and Vernon Norwood. Here is the video of the star-studded walkout of the athlete ahead of his 100m showdown.
Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm opened up about the 100m race
Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm spoke about their feelings after the completion of the 100m dash in the post-race interview. Upon winning the race, the 24-year-old said: (as quoted by sportsstar)
"I'm quite fired up. Stop playing with me."
The Norwegian athlete, on the other hand, complimented his contender and said that the win was "fair and square."
"I got to give it to Mondo. He beat me fair and square, got to give it to him. He was off the blocks quite fast. Congratulations man," said Warholm.
After losing the match, the 400m hurdler was supposed to wear the Sweden vest by Mondo Duplantis during the Zurich Diamond League as a punishment. The Norwegian athlete is supposed to defend his Diamond League title in Zurich after his win in Silesia. He will be squaring off against Alison Dos Santos.
The pole vaulter is also slated to compete tomorrow at 22:48 PM local time against the likes of Sam Kendricks, Christopher Nelson, and Emmanouil Karalis.
