Sha'Carri Richardson has starred in yet another powerful video campaign with the energy drink brand Powerade. The video has been themed around the iconic sentence she spoke after winning the 100m gold in Budapest last year, “I'm not back, I'm better”.
Richardson was pitted as the favorite for the 100m gold before the Tokyo Olympics. However, her journey was cut short after she received a month-long ban for taking marijuana before the 2021 U.S Olympic Trials, which she later won.
However, the 24-year-old recovered from the setbacks, and two years later, witnessed the most important moment of her career unfold at the 2023 World Championships. She stormed to 100m gold in 10.65s, becoming the sixth fastest woman of all time in the discipline.
Speaking with reporters after her emphatic victory, Sha'Carri Richardson used the words from a popular song, ‘I'm Not Back, I'm Better’, to describe her comeback.
“Now, I stand here with you again and I’m ready, mentally, physically and emotionally. I’m here to say, ‘I’m not back, I’m better ... .’”, she expressed. (via Guardian)
Richardson’s latest campaign with Powerade is themed on the same words as she gears up for the Paris Olympics 2024, her first appearance on the biggest stage of all. The campaign projects Richardson as aiming to become the greatest ever and silence her haters. The caption of the video read:
"Sha'Carri Richardson is not back, she's better'
Richardson opened her 2024 outdoor season at the Xiamen Diamond League after skipping the entirety of the indoor season. While she suffered a loss to Australia’s Torrie Lewis in Xiamen, and later to Daryl Neita at the Shanghai meet, the 24-year-old made a strong statement with her 100m race later.

Sha'Carri Richardson lost by 0.03 seconds to Torrie Lewis in the 200m event at the Xiamen Diamond League 2024, which marked her first race of the Olympic year. After clocking 22.99s in Xiamen, Richardson faced yet another defeat a week later in Shanghai. She finished third in 23.11s.
However, the 200m isn't Richardson’s favorite event. She raced her first 100m of the season at the Prefontaine Classic 2024 on May 25 and emerged triumphant in a stacked field. Richardson clocked a blistering 10.83s to win the gold, and later, expressed excitement for the Olympic trials.
“I’m excited, I’m eager going into the rest of this season, I’m growing, developing and just getting ready to make that USA Team,” Sha'Carri Richardson told USA Today.
