Sha'Carri Richardson was seen training in a black outfit ahead of her upcoming appearance at the Zurich Diamond League. The world champion will face Julian Alfred for the first time since being defeated in the Paris Olympics.
Richardson was the overwhelming favorite heading into the 100m finals at the Paris Olympics. A reigning world champion, she had the fastest time in the world in 2024, clocking an impressive 10.71 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Earlier in the season, Richardson ran a time of 10.83 seconds in her first 100m race of the year at the Prefontaine Classic.
While Alfred was considered a threat, no one expected the race to pan out the way it did. Richardson had a slow start out of the blocks, while Alfred burst forward quickly. Despite Richardson's renowned top-end speed, she was unable to catch Alfred. Despite the American sprinter’s famed top-end speed, she couldn't catch Alfred, who crossed the finish line in 10.71s.
The two will now face off at the Zurich Diamond League on September 5, in what promises to be a thrilling rematch of the Olympic final. Other finalists, including Dina Asher-Smith, are also set to compete in the race. Ahead of the highly anticipated race, Richardson was spotted training in a black Nike outfit on the Diamond League track in Weltklasse Zurich. Alongside Richardson, American pole vaulter Katie Moon was also spotted warming up.
The world champion has faced Alfred five times over the 100m dash, with their first encounter taking place at the 2023 Gyulai István Memorial, where Richardson emerged victorious in a time of 10.89 seconds. Alfred has managed to defeat the American sprinter on three occasions, including twice at the Paris Olympics. Richardson currently trails in the head-to-head record by 2-3 and will be aiming to level the score in Zurich.

She wore these spikes throughout the three rounds of the 100m competition, ultimately finishing in second place with a time of 10.87 seconds. The spikes featured the 25-year-old's personal mantra inscribed on the insoles.
Richardson also participated in the 4x100m relay, where she anchored the USA team to a gold medal in the finals. She crossed the finish line in 10.09 seconds, having received the baton in fourth position from 200m champion Gabby Thomas.
