Shilese Jones reached the last leg of the U.S. women's selection for the Paris Olympics after navigating through a series of injuries. She competed at the U.S Core Hydration Classic held on May 17 and 18, 2024 at the XL Center in Connecticut.

She finished second behind Biles in the all-around event and floor exercise. Moreover, she also grabbed the top place in her pet event, the uneven bars. During the Core Hydration Classic, Jones sustained a severe injury in her shoulder.

The two-time world championships gold medalist has been navigating through persistent injury in her right shoulder for the past two years, including a small tear in her right labrum.

The repeated injury on the right shoulder at the Core Hydration Classic forced the American gymnast to withdraw from competing in the 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, held from May 30 to June 2, at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Following the withdrawal, Shilese Jones issued a petition to compete in the U.S. Olympics Gymnastics Trials to earn her debut spot. The petition was granted, recognizing that she met all the standards, which included competing at two World Championships and in two events at the last U.S. Classic.
