Inspired by Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles Gold Over America Tour teammate Ian Gunther attempted gymnastics in long nails but hilariously failed. The 30-city tour ran from September 26 to November 3, 2024.
Simone Biles started the Gold Over America Tour after her Tokyo Olympic heartbreak, aiming to take gymnastics to the common people and celebrate the gymnasts' journeys. After the Paris Games, she embarked on the tour for the second time with her fellow Olympic and World medalists, including the men for the first time.
Ian Gunther, who gained popularity for his exceptional content creation skills, often got behind the camera and hosted fun off-mat challenges while on tour. On December 21, 2024, he posted a video of himself attempting to execute on the equipment with nails like Jordan Chiles. When asked how she does it, Chiles highlighted that the technique matters.
"Technique and making sure I don't break a nail."
After applying the nails and chalking up, Gunther maneuvered on the bars and ripped his skin off. The disaster continued as he lost his first nail during the next uneven bars routine.
He then slipped on the pommel horse and balance beam, losing nails back-to-back. After his sixth nail rip, he surrendered and wondered how women gymnasts like Chiles do it, saying:
"Absolutely crazy, I could never. I don't know how Jordan or anyone else does gymnastics with nails."
Chiles then replied with an empowering message, saying:
"A girl wants to be beautiful and do gymnastics at the same time."
Jordan Chiles was part of the gold-winning team at the Paris Olympics, with Simone Biles as the front-runner. The latter also amassed gold medals in the vault and all-around competitions and a silver medal in the floor exercise.
Simone Biles once tried a standing 1.5 and was the only one to nail it
Gunther once captured the GOAT gymnasts taking up the standing 1.5 challenge, proposed by the 30-time World medalist Simone Biles. Gymnasts like Joscelyn Roberson, Yul Moldauer, and Gunther attempted the maneuver but failed to land.
Despite a tumble in the beginning, Biles landed the standing 1.5 on her second attempt, jokingly stating she would try it on the beam.
"Imma try it on the beam.. Just kidding."
After sticking the landing for the second time, the 27-year-old said:
"I'm just a girl. I'm the only one that landed a standing 1.5," walking off in pride.
Amid the Gold Over America Tour, the docuseries Simone Biles Rising 2 was also released on Netflix on October 25, 2024.
