Simone Biles was spotting her husband Jonathan Owens as the latter tried a somersault on the mat during the Gold Over America tour. Biles and her Olympic teammates kicked off the second edition of the GOAT, which took a stop at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on October 29, 2024.
Biles, who has been frequently attending her husband's NFL games since they started dating, had the latter cheer on her in person at her gymnastic events in 2024. Owens first attended the 2024 US Classic to witness his wife take the all-around title. He then graced the National Championships and supported Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, too.
While cheering on the 11-time Olympic medalist, he also took down notes, a tradition his in-laws, Nellie and Ronald Biles started. After the Games, he surprised Biles when the Gold Over America tour stopped in Milwaukee. He attempted a floor routine with the help of Jordan Chiles in between rehearsals.
Simone Biles' husband also attempted the men's parallel bars routine. In a recent post, he was caught trying to flip backwards while his wife spotted him. On his successful execution, fans, who were recording the adorable moment during GOAT rehearsals, erupted in cheers.
Since Owens was an active supporter of the Olympian at the Paris Games, the latter searched for him in the audience after every hiccup on the gymnastic equipment.
"He's my comfort person. I looked to him even after I had one of the bar mistakes (at the Olympics). I just looked at him and he's like, 'You're fine, calm down,'" she said (via Inside Gymnastics).
The couple have also been updating about the construction of their new house in Houston, Texas since the beginning of 2023.
Simone Biles claims gymnastics to be harder than her husband's sport
After marking her return on the gymnastics mat in 2023, Simone Biles recalled how she contemplated returning to the sport after her Tokyo Olympics heartbreak. Despite the dilemma, she had a successful season, winning the all-around title at the US Classic, National Championships and World Championships.
In between her games, she also attended Owens' NFL games, when the latter played for the Green Bay Packers. In an interview with Peacock on the '2023 Back That Year Up' podcast, host Kenan Thompson asked Biles to pick the harder sport in between gymnastics and the NFL. The latter responded 'gymnastics' and didn't bother whether Owens would agree on the same.
“I think we’re good at our own sports. We’ve tried to pin each other against on, like, difficulty, ability and all of that stuff. So at the end of the day, gymnastics is harder, if he agrees or not," the Olympian replied (at 2:52).
She added:
"..He has done my workout in the gym, and he can barely do it. And I went to their NFL workout and I crushed it.”
The Olympian's docuseries, Simone Biles Rising II' was released on Netflix on October 25, 2024. The second part of the series covered Biles' journey from the trials to the Paris Olympics.
