American gymnastics icon Simone Biles, added one more Olympic gold to her kitty after standing atop the podium in the vault finals in Bercy Arena of the ongoing Paris Olympics.
On Saturday, Biles continued her gold-winning streak at the Games in the vault finals. The 27-year-old scored 15.300 while executing the Yurchenko double pike, also known as the "Biles II." She was awarded a difficulty score of 6.400 and an execution score of 9.366 during the finals.
Interestingly, the vault was the same apparatus that witnessed her disorientation at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, which ultimately led to her withdrawal from the competition. With the seventh Olympic gold medal in her bag, the Ohio native is only two gold medals away from matching the all-time gymnastics record currently held by Larisa Latynina of the Soviet Union for 60 years.
Simone Biles' Brazilian rival and defending Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade, who posed her close competition during the individual all-around finals on Thursday, once again delivered one of the best performances of her career to bag the silver with a score of 14.966. In contrast, Jade Carey of the United States secured third place and took bronze after scoring 14.466.
After Biles and Carey were announced as the podium finishers, the two hugged to celebrate the victory. The video of the moment was shared by BBC Sport on their X handle (formerly Twitter), writing:
"Simone Biles wins GOLD in the vault! She shares a wonderful moment with teammate Jade Carey who comes in third."

After clinching the vault title on Saturday, the American prodigy is set to compete in two more events, the balance beam and floor exercise finals, scheduled for Monday, August 5, in the Bercy Arena.
