Simone Biles will make an appearance at the third Olympic Trials of her career. Since her return at the 2024 US Classic, Biles has displayed the strongest routines, earning her seventh US Classic title and ninth National title.
Biles marked her comeback at the Hydration Core Classic, where she secured the highest single-vault score. Soon after, she bagged her ninth National title, qualifying for the Olympic Trials as the top seed.
Biles made her debut on the Olympic stage at the 2016 Rio Summer Games and won five medals - four golds in the all-around, team, vault and floor, and one bronze in balance beam. She then earned the team silver and balance beam bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, before withdrawing midway citing 'twisties'.
The Olympian won her sixth all-around gold medal with an overall score of 58.399 at the 2023 World Championships. She became the most decorated gymnast with 37 medals across Olympics and World Championships.
In a recent Instagram post, Team USA shared a video montage of Biles compiling her perfect routines from the recent events. It encompasses her graceful balance beam and vault landings, her camaraderie with her teammates, and a couple of clean floor maneuvers.
With her efforts for the upcoming Olympics, Biles will look to extend her Olympic medal tally to 12 and overall tally to 42 (including both the quadrennial Games and the World Championships).
Simone Biles' seven Olympic medals ties her with Shannon Miller as the only gymnast to achieve that number.
Simone Biles - "Everyone says I look like I'm having fun, so that's good"
Having faced the 'twisties' during the peak of her career, Biles felt the importance of getting back to gymnastics with a better head space.
Her former coach, Cecile Landi, spoke about Biles enjoying every moment (via Olympics.com):
"I know she says she’s ready to be done, but I think she’s really enjoying and appreciating every meet she gets to do.”
This statement struck a chord with Simone Biles, who chimed in to say:
"Everyone says I look like I'm having fun, so that's good. Because I feel like most of the time I'm not stressing or having anxiety, I do feel like I'm having fun, so it's good to have that and feel that again."
The 2024 US Olympic Gymnastic Trials will be held from June 27 to June 30, 2024 at Target Center Minneapolis.
