Simone Biles looked in cruise control of her skills as she and USA Gymnastics are going through final preparations ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. The seven-time Olympic medalist was spotted practicing ‘Biles II on Vault', a skill that was named after her last year at World Championships and is also called Yurchenko Double Pike.
Biles has a total of five gymnastics skills named after her, and 'Biles II on Vault' is one of the toughest of the lot. She performed the move for the first time at the 2021 U.S. Classic. However, it was only named after her at the 2023 World Championships, the first time she performed it on the international stage.
'Biles II on Vault' is also named as Yurchenko double pike, where she does a backflip off the vault, followed by two full rotations in a pike position. It's regarded as one of the toughest skills in gymnastics and is awarded a difficulty score of 6.4.
Simone Biles and USA Gymnastics landed in France a couple of days ago and attended two training sessions on July 19 and 20. USA Gymnastics posted a video of Biles practicing the Yurchenko double pike on Saturday, and the 27-year-old landed it perfectly.
Biles secured first place at the U.S. Gymnastics Olympic Trials last month, winning with a dominant score of 117.225. She competed earlier at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships and U.S. Classic and won the all-around titles at both competitions. At the U.S. Championships, the 27-year-old won all of the five gold medals.
