America's gymnastics icon Simone Biles created more history on Thursday by winning one more Olympic title at the ongoing Paris Games. She reigned supreme in the women's individual all-around final to become the first gymnast in history to claim two all-around titles since 1968.
Biles posted an all-around score of 59.131 to win the second individual all-around Olympic title of her career. She scored 15.766 in the vault with a difficulty and execution tally of 6.400 and 9.366 respectively, while scoring 13.733 and 14.566 in the uneven bars and balance beam apparatuses. In the deciding floor exercise routine, Biles executed an impressive triple-twisting double back to inch closer to her second title. She finished the floor exercise with a massive, high double-layer finish and ensured that the medal was coming her way.
Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, who was considered a threat to Biles' dominance, secured the second consecutive Olympic silver in the event after scoring 57.932. Defending champion Suni Lee had to settle for a third-place finish and bag a bronze with a score of 56.465, helping the USA grab a double podium finish at the Paris Olympics.
With the victory, Simone Biles not only added her ninth Olympic medal to her kitty, but she also became the first gymnast to win the individual all-around Olympic title two Olympic cycles apart. Sharing the coverage of the event, NBC Olympics & Paralympics took to their X handle (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
