Simone Biles wore a black floral dress and posed on the blue carpet with her family for the premiere of "Simone Biles Rising Part 2," which will be released on Netflix on October 25, 2024. The first part of the docuseries covered the Olympian's Tokyo Olympic heartbreak and mental health struggles.
Biles, the 11-time Olympic medalist, withdrew midway through the competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, in the wake of "twisties." Her decision to prioritize her mental health and pull out from the marquee event received backlash from some fans who called her a 'quitter', as recounted in the first part of "Simone Biles Rising." In it, she also talked about navigating Olympic heartbreak and how her mental struggles were a "trauma response" to former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar's abuse.
Following the release of the first part of the documentary, Biles participated in the 2024 Paris Games, where she contributed scores to the team's title win, clinched gold in the individual all-around and vault, and silver in the floor exercise. The 30-time World medalist is on a week-long break from the Gold Over America tour, which will next stop at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio on October 27.
On October 23, 2024, the Olympian appeared with her biggest supporters, parents Nellie and Ron Biles and sister Adria Biles, for the premiere of Simone Biles Rising Part 2. The family graced the blue carpet in black and blue outfits, while Biles appeared graceful in a black gown with a floral design.
The second part of the docuseries will also feature two episodes, taking viewers through Biles' performance at the Olympic trials and making the Olympic team. It will also cover the Olympian's arrival in Paris and the story of how she made waves on the gymnastic mat to become the most decorated gymnast.
Simone Biles Rising director Katie Walsh talked about the uncertainty surrounding second part of the docuseries
After the Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles wasn't sure she would return to the Olympic stage. The situation also put the docuseries' director Katie Walsh in a position where she considered ending the docuseries. However, after receiving positive news from the Olympian, Walsh continued to document her 2024 Olympic journey. She said (via Screen Rant),
"We didn’t know. She didn't know if she was going to return to competition until last summer, and we didn't know if we were going to be making this film and following her throughout the whole season.
"I've been working with Simone since 2019, so we had this relationship [already] established that we were able to build off of, which was really helpful. Once she did decide that it was go time for all the things… I jumped on a plane and left within probably 72 hours of getting that green light.
The third and fourth episodes of the Netflix docuseries "Simone Biles Rising" are set to be released at 3 a.m. ET on 25th October, 2024.
