Suni Lee recently announced that she would be participating in the American Classic in 2024. The Olympic medalist was spotted training on the beam ahead of the event which is scheduled for 27 April 2024.
Suni Lee faced a lot of adversities last year as she was suffering from a health issue which led her to end her collegiate career and let go of her NCAA eligibility. She began the 2024 Olympic season at the Winter Cup in 2024 which was a qualification event for the World Cup in Baku.
The American gymnast had planned to register a new skill on the uneven bars named after her in Baku however she was not selected to be a part of the team that represented the United States in Baku.
"Healthwise, I'm doing really good right now. I'm in remission, so I'm feeling really good, and taking my time in the gym has been feeling amazing. All of my skills are coming back and I'm just working on consistency," she said. ( as quoted by olympics.com).
Since then, she has been consistently working on improving her skills as the coveted Olympic trails are just around the corner. Lee was spotted practicing the Double Pike Dismont during a training session ahead of her appearance at the American Classic.
Suni Lee on her Paris Olympics preparation
Suni Lee hit three routines - namely the uneven bars, balance beam, and the floor routine - at the Tokyo Olympics while competing in the team event finals. The team won the silver medal at the Olympics with Russia taking home the gold.
This year, as the Olympics trials are just a couple of months away, it is expected to be one of the most competitive team selections in recent times with great gymnasts like Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and Kayla Di Cello in contention for a spot on the team.
Lee opened up about her training routine for the Olympics while speaking to Olympics.com.
“We’re still actually trying to come up with the smartest routines. I just get so bored and start connecting random things whenever I feel good. “It’s kind of been hard because my stamina is just not fully there yet,” she continued. “We’re just working on getting my stamina up and, then, cleaning everything up,” she said.
The American Classic, in which Suni Lee will be competing, will also feature Gabby Douglas who will be making her comeback after a hiatus of eight years.
