Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall enjoyed success at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, respectively, by winning their first-ever gold medals in the quadrennial games. Tara achieved the gold in the women’s long jump at the Olympic Games, while Hunter, who had previously won three medals at the Paralympics, added a gold to his Summer Games medal tally.

Tara earned gold with a jump of 7.10m. The gold was Tara’s first-ever medal at the Olympic Games; she finished sixth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. About a month later, Hunter enhanced his Paralympic medal tally with a gold in the men’s 400m T62 as he registered a time of 46.36s to win ahead of Germany’s Johannes Floors (46.90) and the Netherlands’ Olivier Hendriks (46.91).

Afterward, just as Tara ran to him during the Paris Olympics, Hunter on Friday night in Paris ran to where his wife was seated, and the two embraced. The official Spanish-language Olympics account on X (formerly Twitter) shared a post showing Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall running into each other’s arms post their gold-medal wins, captioning the post (translated from Spanish):

Love story straight out of a movie: Tara Davis-Woodhall is an Olympic champion. Now, her husband, Hunter Woodhall, has also won at @Paris2024 . ❤️ They shared their exploits again! 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 #OlympicGames #ParalympicGames

Following her victory, Tara had fallen backward in the long jump sand pit and created a "sand angel." She had then rushed to the stands where Hunter was cheering her on wearing a shirt with "Team Tara" inscribed in it. They celebrated the moment with Hunter lifting Tara into his arms as they embraced.

As Hunter Woodhall crossed the finish line on September 6, he removed his USA bib and pointed to the message on its back. The message read, “Wyatt Woodhall, this one is for you.” Wyatt, Hunter's uncle, passed away from cancer.

“We hold each other accountable - we’re a partnership, we’re a team, and every day, it’s a new experience, but we get to do it together, so it makes it ten times better.”

They have consistently stood by one another through both good and bad times.
