Usain Bolt cheered on his godson NJJ during the latter's junior meet in Jamaica. NJJ, who is 13 years old, is the son of Bolt's agent Nugent Walker.
Usain Bolt is among the greatest athletes of all time with a total of eight Olympic gold medals to his name. He is also the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m world record holder, and the record-breaking times still stand tall. He has 23 gold medals across all major events and boasts 11 World champion titles accumulated in his illustrious career.
Father to daughter Olympian Lightning, and twin sons Saint Leo Bolt and Thunder Bolt, the 37-year-old retired Olympian shares an adorable bond with another kid, NJJ. He is the son of Nugent 'N.J' Walker, who has been Usain Bolt's best friend since they were 5, and now, his agent. On NJJ's birth, Bolt had declared on Instagram that he would be the godfather to his best friend's firstborn.
NJJ was seen running the 60m dash the fastest in the Class 2 Boys 60m heat. He smoothly outpaced his rivals, emulating 'godfather' Bolt's track mastery. Taking to his X handle, Bolt shared the clip of NJJ's run and paired it with the comment:
"Hot foot…Keep having fun my G #godson #NJJ"
At the On Di Run Junior Sprint Fest, in the Class 2 Boys 60m heat, the little NJJ clocked a time of 9.08s to win the race. The event took place at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College.
Besides sharing a mutual love for track, the two are also spotted making music on Usain Bolt's YouTube page. They worked together and were featured in the lyrical videos 'Life' and 'Winning is A Must', among others.
"Usain Bolt would have been a successful cricketer if it hadn't been for track and field" -
Besides being close friends, they were also drawn to sports around the same time. Nugent Walker and Usain Bolt went to Waldensia primary school, where they started training in cricket initially. In an interview with CNN in 2017, Walker stated that had Bolt not been a track athlete he would have been a cricketer.
"Bolt was the better one and would have been a successful cricketer if it hadn’t been for track and field," Walker said.
Walker also spoke about how Bolt would ring him several times during the 2015 World Championships.
"He was facing the biggest race of his career, people were saying he was going to lose to Justin Gatlin, but he was ringing me five or six times a day. I was like ‘focus on the race’ and he wouldn’t listen. So while I’m there for him, he’s there for me and always has been," Walker said.
Bolt retired from track and field in 2017, a year after winning three golds at the Rio Olympics.
