Tara Davis-Woodhall's husband, Hunter Woordhall recently shed light on the struggle his wife faced while trying to gain entry into prestigious competitions like the Diamond League. Despite her talent, Tara was denied entry into the prestigious track and field circuit just one year after college.

The Paralympic gold medalist highlighted his frustration over the broader issue in sport, saying that traditional success markers such as past medals and records are prioritized over indicators like fan engagement and raw potential from athletes still on the rise.

Reflecting on their experience during an episode of Beyond the Records podcast published on January 2, 2025, Hunter shared the challenges his wife faced during the early stages of her career.

"Tara, 20, the first year out of college, we couldn't even get her in a diamond league. They said no. They wouldn't even let her come to the meet like we said I swear to God, we said, 'we'll pay our way to the meet, you don't got to pay for our travel, and you don't got to pay for our hotel. We will get there just let us compete', and they said no. We were, like, fighting to even be led into the sport," Hunter said (28:11 onwards).

The heartwarming moment of Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall at the 2024 Paris Olympics almost didn't happen due to ticket struggles. The Paralympic champion initially had trouble securing tickets to watch his wife compete in the women's long jump final, a key event for them. He said that obtaining tickets was challenging for everyone involved.

However, the situation changed when NBCS offered him a deal to be mic'd up in exchange for front-row tickets. Hunter accepted the offer, ensuring he could be present to support his wife during the quadrennial Games.

Recalling the event, he said (Deseret news):

“The only reason I was even like on camera with a mic is cause NBC said, If you let us mic you up, we’ll give you tickets right up front, and I was like, Deal." (deseret.com)

The moment became iconic when Tara Davis-Woodhall, after winning her first Olympic gold medal in the long jump, leaped into her husband's arms in an emotional celebration.
