Tennis legend Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian celebrated the launch of a female-only track league, Athlos NYC that featured an all-female broadcast crew. The crew included three female anchors, including the two-time Big 12 Champion Serenity Douglas, Jamaican middle-distance runner Aisha Praught Leer, and American sprinter Talitha Diggs.

This marked the first time in the history of Citius Mag that the entire broadcast crew was comprised of women. The female-only track meet featured 36 athletes, with the Paris Olympics gold medalist Gabby Thomas headlining the event on Thursday, 26 September 2024, at Icahn Stadium in New York City.

After featuring six races, including the 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m, the event was concluded by American rapper and singer Megan Thee Stallion's performance. The Athlos NYC marked a standout event in women's track and field, offering staggering prize money with $60,000, $25,000, and $10,000 for the first three finishers, respectively.

During the commentary session of the event's inaugural edition with Citius Mag, Ohanian highlighted that while the track league is itself unique, the first all-female broadcast crew of Citius Mag also marks a historic achievement. Following his remarks, one of the broadcasters noted the event was also historic as it featured an all-black women broadcast crew.

“We’re making history in a few ways. Obviously this is a pretty special, unique event, but more importantly, are we making CITIUS MAG history? That’s right — first all-ladies (broadcast)," Alexis Ohanian said.

Alexis Ohanian recently reflected on his disinterest in women's sports, including tennis, until he started dating Serena Williams. After dating for a year, the couple exchanged their wedding vows in 2017.

Reflecting on his initial disinterest in women's sports, Ohanian said (via CITIUSMag on X):

"I was not at all a women's sports fan in 2019. I wasn't. I certainly enjoyed tennis. I loved cheering on my wife. I didn't even like, didn't even like tennis until I started dating," Ohanian said.

However, Ohanian said that he eventually found himself admiring the thrilling aspects of women's tennis, acknowledging the equal popularity of women's tennis in America.

"I came around real quick, but what was so compelling was women's tennis was so exhilarating, so exciting, not just because I'm married to the GOAT, but because it was actually just an amazing sport. You don't think twice. Of course, women's tennis is just as popular in America as men's," he added.

In July 2020, Alexis Ohanian also invested in Angel City FC in his daughter Olympia's name, making her the youngest person to co-own a sports team.
