Day 8 - World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023 Team Jamaica

Team Jamaica failed to qualify their 4x400m relay team for the Paris Olympics. In their final bid to run below 2:59.12, the team clocked 2:59.75 to witness their Paris dreams move farther. The disappointing results at the NACAC New Life Invitational in Nassau, The Bahamas, left fans worried over the loss of the nation that rules athletics.

At the 2024 World Athletics Relays, team Jamaica ran the 4x400m relay heats in 3:02.46, the season-best but finished third, which automatically placed them outside the Paris Olympic relay roster. Further in the repechage rounds, they finished fifth, losing their final chance.

Reportedly, team Jamaica was given the last opportunity to run sub 2:59.12 before June 30 to secure a berth on the Paris Olympic roster. However, the 4x400m relay team's time of 2:59.75 didn't meet the qualification requirements. The team has not qualified for Paris as a result, as reported by Travis Miller on X.

On this news break, track fans questioned Jamaica's current form when the nation is one of the top seeds in the athletic realm.

One fan speculated what might be wrong with Jamaica.

"What is going on with Jamaica???"

Another X user wondered which time would have qualified team Jamaica since 2:59 looked fast enough to them.

"2:59 doesn’t get you to the Olympics that’s crazy"

One X user took a jab at the Jamaican team since they have Usain Bolt as the most promising track name from Jamaica.

"Don’t they have the reigning world champ?"

Here are some of the other reactions:

"Sub 3 doesn't qualify?" tweeted a fan.
"Wow," commented a fan.
"What is the Olympic qualifying time? I know 32 nations don’t run that fast at the Olympics," a fan tweeted.

The 4x400m relay team didn't qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 1960. The team of Tarees Rhoden, Kimar Farquharson, Reheem Hayles, and JeVaughn Powell couldn't join the qualifying teams of Zambia and France.

Team Jamaica qualified their relay teams for the Paris Olympics except for the men's 4x400m

The women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams booked their Paris seats on the second day at the World Athletics Relays, Nassau, The Bahamas. Further on, the 4x400m mixed relay team joined the men's 4x100m on the first day of the World Relays on the qualifier podium.

In The Bahamas, 16 relay teams qualified for Paris. Eight teams were decided on the first day and six on the second day.
