A terrible incident has taken place involving Czech gymnast Natalie Stichova after falling from a mountain while trying to take a selfie during her visit to Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany. The incident which saw her fall 262 feet from Tegelberg Mountain in the Bavarian region on August 15, 2024 resulted in her death six days later at the age of 23.
In an interview with Czech media, a friend of the gymnast said that Stichova was standing near the mountain’s edge while attempting to take a selfie. The friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, said:
“She (Natalie Stichova) fell from a height of about 80 metres (262 ft). We will never find out whether she slipped or whether a piece of the rock edge broke off.”

According to reports by local media, Stichova was airlifted to the hospital by helicopter after the critical fall. She was traveling with her boyfriend and two other friends. Sokol Pribram Sports Gymnastics took to their Instagram to express their condolences and said (translated in English):
“With deep sadness we announce that after a tragic accident, our amazing friend, gymnast, representative and coach Natálka Štíchová, has left us forever. She lost her fight for life at 21. August at 5:30 in the morning. Natálka gave a smile throughout her short life and that is how we will always remember her.”
“Our deepest condolences to all the family and close friends and sending much strength and support. To honor the memory of our Natálka, you can come and light a candle directly to our falcon house. 🖤🕊️”

Natalie Stichova’s love for traveling
Natalie Stichova was passionate about traveling and frequently explored destinations around the globe. Based on her Instagram profile, the Philippines was one of the destinations that Stichova visited with her boyfriend where they explored the Batad Rice Terraces and popular islands for sightseeing.
In addition, Stichova had also traveled to Austria, Portugal, and Italy, among other European countries she visited. Her love for mountains and nature is evident through her Instagram platform. Moreover, she was also a fan of hiking.
