US screenwriter Shonda Rhimes has commented on her time at Athlos NYC 2024. The female-only track meet concluded on Thursday (September 26) with 36 athletes competing in various events.
Rhimes was present at the Icahn Stadium as a guest invitee and enjoyed watching talented US Olympic stars such as Gabby Thomas and Brittany Brown compete. Besides these athletes, Rhimes also met the three-time Olympic gold medalist Gail Devers who was also present in the stands.
Following the conclusion of the event, Rhimes took to her official Instagram handle to share some pictures with Thomas, Brown, and also Alexis Ohanian (the founder of the track meet). In her post, she shared some kind words regarding her time at the Athlos NYC 2024 and also mentioned the feeling she had after watching the athletes compete.
In her post, Rhimes also thanked Ohanian for inviting her to this first-ever all-women's track meet. She wrote:
"Wow! This chair athlete has been having a time this season! What an incredible experience I had at @athlos, the all-women’s track meet created by the amazing @alexisohanian (thanks so much for the invite!). It was especially powerful to witness these incredible Black women doing what they do best."
Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith and Brittany Brown shine as Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas faces defeat at the Athlos NYC 2024
The inaugural Athlos NYC track meet saw Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith clinch the women's 100m title after her impressive performance at the Brussels Diamond League finals. The Cote d'Ivoire athlete clocked a run-time of 10.98 seconds to defeat Paris Olympics bronze medalist Brittany Brown. She also finished the race as the only athlete to breach the 11 seconds mark.
Brown eventually settled for second place after clocking 11.05 seconds. However, she secured the top spot on the podium in the 200m event after defeating the 200m Olympic champion Gabby Thomas. Thomas completed the race in 22.18 seconds and finished just 0.03 seconds ahead of Brown's run-time of 22.21 seconds.
Brown also finished the 2024 Athlos meet as the only US track and field athlete to win a race.
