Kara Goucher is a former distance running icon from the United States who represented her nation twice at the Olympiads: 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London.

Goucher competed for the University of Colorado on the collegiate level, where she became a two-time NCAA champion. Later in her career, the runner secured a silver medal in 10,000 meters during the 2007 World Championships in Athletics.

The following year, she made her marathon running debut in 2008 and went on to achieve several accolades later in her career, including two bronze medals in World Marathon Majors competitions, first in New York in 2008 and then in Boston in 2009.

The 46-year-old placed eighth in both the 5000-meter and 10000-meter disciplines at the Beijing Olympics, while at the London Olympics, four years later, she finished tenth in the marathon. Goucher married fellow American Olympian Adam Goucher in 2001, and after giving birth to her son Colt in September 2010, she took a break from running.

However, she resumed the sport the following year, where she ran a new personal best at the Boston Marathon.

Interestingly, Kara Goucher never announced her retirement; however, she shifted her focus to other ventures after finishing fourth at the 2016 Olympic qualifiers. In her latest role, Queens, a New York-born athlete, joined NBC Sports as a race commentator for the Paris Olympics, where she provides her expert insights on the sport.

Kara Goucher was ecstatic following Grant Fisher's 10,000-meter bronze medal victory at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Saturday. Fisher clocked in a time of 26:43.46 to bag his first international medal at the Stade de France. With this, Fisher became only the second male distance runner to win a medal for the United States in the 10,000m distance.

Talking about the 27-year-old's performance, Goucher stated (via NBC Sports):

"This is a huge moment for American distance running. He believed. He did everything right. He made all the changes he needed to make in his training, and he came in here with a faith and a belief in himself and we saw it lap after lap and we saw it down that final homestretch and he made this happen."

She further added that Fisher sparked a new belief in American distance runners after standing on the podium on the Olympic stage.
