Joseph Schooling is one of the most popular names in Singapore. Post-retirement, Schooling has teamed up with investment banker Cliff Go and serial entrepreneur Ben Ling to become a founding partner of Swaen Schooling Capital as he aims to achieve success in venture capital investing. He is also the founder of Swim Schooling which gives swimming lessons to kids in Singapore.
Schooling continues to remain the brand ambassador of German-based fashion company, Hugo Boss. He rose to prominence after producing a huge upset over the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, in the men's 100m butterfly event at the 2016 Rio Olympics to clinch the gold medal.
With this feat, he scripted history for his country Singapore, becoming their first-ever gold medalist in the history of the Summer Games. Before this, Singapore had clinched two silver and two bronze medals in Olympic history.
Thus, Schooling's achievement added a boost to their overall medal tally. However, the Singaporean athlete has now announced his retirement from Swimming and will not be representing the nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Schooling posted about his retirement from the competitive sport on his Instagram account with multiple photos from his childhood and swimming days on April 2, 2024.
Schooling’s swimming career saw him collect two bronze medals at the World Aquatics Championships in the 2017 and 2015 editions in the 100m butterfly event. Besides this, he also earned seven medals throughout his participation in the Asian Games, which includes three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.
Apart from this, the 28-year-old amassed 29 gold, three silver, and two bronze medals at the Southeast Asian Games. In addition, he is a 12-time NCAA champion.
