Josh Kerr set forward a bold claim as he prepares to compete in the 1500m in the upcoming Paris Olympics. The British athlete put forward incredible performances in the 2024 season as he eyes his first Olympic Gold medal in Paris.
Josh Kerr began the Olympic season with great momentum by winning several races in the indoor season and setting the indoor 2-mile world record at the Millrose games. Moreover, he clinched the World Indoor title with a formidable lead in the Men's 3000m after clocking 7:42.98.
As he was gearing up for the Paris Olympics, he appeared in Citius Magazine's documentary series "Beasts: Unleashed", featuring some great athletes. The documentary showcased Kerr's training regime as he geared up for the Paris Olympics.
The British athlete spoke about his training methodology and credited his team for their incredible support and meticulous planning. Moreover, Kerr expressed belief in his current training routine and fitness as he is set to compete against top athletes like Jakob Ingebrigtsen in Paris.
" I think Whatever it takes to win major championships, I can run it. it doesn't matter what that time is. If anyone in the world can run it, I can," he said. (2:20)
" When you have a program like the beast led by Danny, that's what we are looking for is progress every year and that's what I am showing. It is not anything special, it's not instant gratification, it's not crazy high milege or hard sessions or long days," he added.
Josh Kerr on handling pressure while competing at the Olympics
Josh Kerr spoke about handling high-pressure situations while competing in the Olympics.
The British athlete is slated to compete against arch-rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen and expressed that the Norwegian athlete will be the one under pressure to defend his Olympic title whereas he is focussed on making his dream come true.
" I want to do myself justice for all the hard work that I have put in and I feel like I have earned the right to have this conversation of about talking and going after the gold medal in Paris. I have to be realistic and know that I am not the current Olympic Champion. I am the current World Champion but you know Ingebrigtsen's the Olympic Champion and it's his title and it's his title to lose. I just need to have the belief and hopefully, the training behind me will allow that dream to come into reality," he said.
Josh Kerr will be in action in the Men's 1500m at the Paris Olympics aiming for his first Olympic Gold medal.
