Caeleb Dressel is one of the prominent names who will headline the USA squad at the Paris Olympics 2024. The American swimmer already has seven Olympic gold medals in his possession and will be looking to extend his medal tally at the upcoming quadrennial Games.

Dressel, who had taken a hiatus from the international circuit reportedly due to mental health issues and withdrew midway through the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, returned to the sport last year at the Speedo Atlanta Classic in May 2023.

Following the Speedo Atlanta Classic and Phillips 66 National Championships, he went on to bag his first gold medal post his comeback at the 2023 Toyota USA Open in the men’s 100m butterfly in a time of 51.31s. In 2024, he participated in the TYR Pro Swim Series in Westmont and San Antonio and the Atlanta Classic, where he showcased great results.

After his brilliant performances at the US Olympic Trials, Caeleb Dressel was picked in the USA’s squad for his third consecutive Games, having competed in the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At the Paris Olympics, the 27-year-old will kick off his Olympic campaign in the 4x100m freestyle relay and will then participate in the individual men’s 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Caeleb Dressel’s Road to the Paris Olympics

Caeleb Dressel had listed himself to compete in three events, including 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, and 100m butterfly at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials for the Paris Olympics. Although he was the favorite to win the 100m freestyle, he was defeated by compatriots Chris Guiliano and Jack Alexy.

As a result, the defending Olympic champion couldn’t book his place in the individual event but qualified in the relay event. However, Dressel then bounced back at the Trials to win both the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly, clocking times of 21.41 and 50.19.
