Jakob Ingebrigtsen had an impressive run in 2024, winning gold at the Paris Olympics. The Norwegian has now confirmed his season debut for 2025, and he is scheduled to race in an event he hasn't ever competed in before.
Ingebrigtsen will open his 2025 season on February 13, at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas de Calais. The runner is slated to compete in the indoor mile, an event he hasn't explored prior to this upcoming appearance. The meet will take place in Lieven, France.
Ingebrigtsen has previously put up some commendable performances in Leiven, including his 2022 1500m indoor world record of 3:30.60s. While the Norwegian hasn't yet raced an indoor mile, he will still be a threat in the event.
The 24-year-old’s outdoor mile personal best is 3:43.73, the third fastest in the history of the event. His time is only outdone by Hicham El Guerrrouj’s 3:43.13s, and Noah Ngeny’s 3:43.40s.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen hints at participating in European & World Athletics Indoor Championships
Following his season debut at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas de Calais in February, Jakob Ingebrigtsen may continue to compete indoors.
Taking to his Instagram, the Paris Olympics champion let fans know that he might be in action at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, and the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, writing,
“Where to run in 2025? My bag is packed and I'm ready to go! Next stop: The mountains. Then: Liévin. Then: Apeldoorn. And maybe... Nanjing? I haven't planned the full season yet, so if you have a bucket list of races - short-, middle- or long-distance - let me know, and I'll take them into consideration. The machinery is running smooth, and I'm hungry! Hope to see some of you on the track!”
At the European Athletics Indoor Championships, Ingebrigtsen would arrive as the reigning three-time champion in the 3000m, and the reigning two-time champion in the 1500m.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian is yet to win any titles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and so, he will have a chance to add the missing medal to his resume if he chooses to participate in Nanjing.
After the indoor competitions, Jakob Ingebrigtsen will likely switch his focus to the 2025 World Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Tokyo, in September. In Tokyo, the runner will have a chance to claim his third consecutive 5000m crown.
