After pulling out of the Monaco Diamond League, Noah Lyles will next be seen in action at the London Diamond League. This will likely be the American's final outing before he heads to Paris to compete in his second consecutive Olympic Games.
Lyles was originally slated to run the 200m at the Stade Louis II on July 12, marking his first DL meet of the season. This track and competition have previously seen some of the sprinter’s strongest performances, including a stellar run in 2022.
That year, after storming to his second consecutive World Title in the distance, the American headed to Monaco, clocking a 19.46 for the win and a new meet record.
Fans were eager to see him back in action on the tracks of the Stade Louis II again, with an impending showdown against Botswana's Letsile Tebogo creating excitement.
However, Noah Lyles pulled out of the meet at the last minute, with his management team releasing the following statement:
"I'm sorry to announce that I've withdrawn from this Friday's Meeting Herculis EBS in Monaco. The meet is one of my favorites to compete in, and Monaco is one of my favorite places that my career has taken me to."
The statement further read:
“My coach, my entire team and I are very pleased with what we were able to achieve at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, however, in order to put myself in the best possible position to succeed in Paris, we have decided to spend an extra week at our training base in Florida before traveling to Europe. I'll miss competing there on Friday, but I look forward to returning to race in Monaco next year."
Now, Lyles will next be in action at the London Diamond League, running the 100m. This will likely be his last competition before the Paris Olympics.
Last time the World Champion competed at the London Stadium was in 2023, when he won the 200m with a world leading time of 19.47 seconds.
When and how to watch Noah Lyles in action at the London Diamond League
Noah Lyles will take to the track at the London Stadium at 15:52 pm local time on July 20, just six days before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Fans in America excited to watch their World Champion’s run can tune into NBC Sports.
Lyles is looking forward to giving the crowd a special experience at the meet, telling the organizers,
“Last year was my first time competing in London and to run such a fast time was a great experience. The atmosphere in the London Stadium was incredible and I could feel the energy coming from the crowd. I always want to give something special to all those who come out to see us, and I look forward to doing that at this year’s Diamond League event in July.”
So far, the only sprinter confirmed to join Noah Lyles at the London Diamond League is 2024 NCAA and British champion Louie Hinchliffe.
However, as many incoming Olympians arrive in Europe before the Paris Games, the line-up is likely to get more exciting soon.
